I’m SO excited to share with you the launch of my Kickstarter to publish my first cookbook, TOAST!

For years I’ve been hosting dinner parties and creating experiences around food. To me, the beauty of a meal is that it is an amazing vehicle for connection. It creates a space for people to come together in an authentic and genuine way, one that feeds both their bodies and their souls.

When I decided to write Toast, the idea was simple: create a book of beautiful, creative, and accessible recipes. I want to teach you freedom in the kitchen, and empower you to imaginatively use the ingredients all around you – no matter what kind of mess it makes.

Food has become so much more fun for me since I’ve learned to not take it so seriously. Just like life, cooking is a journey and a process that sometimes gets really messy. But without it, you’d never get to that final product that is so worth biting into.

I love food, but ultimately am a hostess at heart. I began cooking when I was young, using the kitchen as a space to process, be tactile, and practice creativity. When I started working in food professionally in Los Angeles, I found my greatest joy came from creating experiences for people around a table. To invite someone in, and allow them to be seen and known.

I live in downtown Los Angeles, and love it. It’s a place booming with creativity, people pursuing their dreams, and so much life. I am especially proud of Toast because the process of creating it has been full of just that. I have had the opportunity to work with incredible people to make Toast come to life, in addition to printing the book locally in California. I am so ecstatic to introduce you to Toast, and would so love for you to be a part of it!

This book has 62 recipes of easy to follow and all together beautiful toasts that encourage you to play in the kitchen. Most recipes can be made in under 15 minutes, and at any time of the day. Each chapter, Sunrise, Savory, and Sweet, brings you toasts for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Plus, the photographs are so beautiful they’ll make your mouth water. The whole book is photographed by my favorite photographers Paper Antler, and their images are stunning.

These recipes use healthy, vibrant ingredients that you likely already have on hand. There is a toast for every person inside, whether you are a vegan, non-dairy eater, or a bacon-lover. Plus, there are many tips on substitutions and replacements so you can find creative freedom in whatever you are craving.

I recently got to do a little series of videos with some of the world’s greatest humans, Paper Antler.

They’re the kind of friends that last through every season, and working with them is just FUN. We did a series of easy, quick, and nourishing videos, all in tune to Jonny’s amazing beats.

Food, eating well, nourishing our bodies- these things we do on the daily have the power to heal. I’ve been thinking a lot about the gut. It’s this part of our body that we have to fine tune our selves to listen to… It’s a practice. It’s a discipline to slow down enough and pay attention to the way that something feels internally.

This afternoon over a conversation with a friend, we spoke about how everyone can identify with pain, because we all spend our lives trying to run from it. I think often with food, with nourishment, we are absent minded to it’s effect on the way we feel- we spend our days running too fast to notice what a meal makes us feel. But truthfully, it’s one of the greatest practices you can begin to value. Because when you slow down to listen to your gut, everything else begins to illuminate. You begin to notice other small things. You learn to listen more intently. You tune in.

This salad, is simple, it’s so darn good, and it’s a gut friendly one. Make it. Slow down a little bit. And give a pause to how and what you feel today. You’re worth your time.


summer whiskey wednesdays!

You guys! I’m so excited to bring Whiskey Wednesdays back to Los Angeles this summer! I started Whiskey Wednesdays in 2013 on a whim while drinking whiskey on my floor with my friend Heidi.

“We should invite people over to drink whiskey with us,” I say. (We are both HIGH extroverts). I will cook for them, I say. And we could have dinner parties with strangers. We keep ideating and ultimately come up with this idea of “Whiskey Wednesdays”- a bi-monthly dinner party for strangers. Creating space for people to connect around food and drink in an authentic and genuine way.

In a city like LA, where time is precious, space is expansive, pretense is heightened, and life is chaotic, this kind of REAL connection is rare.

I am such a fan of brunch. Any day, anywhere. I love a good avocado toast, a mimosa, and lingering over the best meal with a few girlfriends. That is the beauty of food to me really, that it creates an experience and space to exist with one another. To linger. To actually take time to ask questions, be present and enter into one another’s lives. Brunch in my mind, is the perfect setting for just that. The beautiful Firefly (which happens to be this mysterious almost secret-like) entrance in Studio City recently started doing a brunch that has a reputation of being delightful, so I knew I had to pop in for a visit.

This month, I’ve been reflecting on self love and care. So often in the month of February, especially with Valentine’s Day, our efforts of loving are directed towards other people in our life. This is one of the best parts of the month to me, that we get to celebrate the people around us. But, the more capacity we carry to love ourselves, the more in-depth we’re able to love the people around us. I love finding ways to “treat myself”. To take the time to celebrate me, to be mindful of slowing down and enjoying time with just me, myself, and I. This little lavender almond latte is one of my favorite ways to treat myself- and it’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.  Read more…

turmeric + apple + carrot soup

Turmeric! It’s the main spice in curries, and is arguably the most powerful herb for your body. In fact, turmeric has been found to have benefits that are equivalent to many pharmaceutical drugs. It’s a miracle worker, and so delicious to cook with. It’s anti-inflammatory, increases antioxidant capacity in the body, is linked to brain function, rumored to lower the risk of brain cancer, and is known to help prevent some cancers. Magical right?!

One of my favorite things to make during a busy week is a pot of soup. That way, when I get home from a long day, I’ve got a vat of deliciousness waiting for me. Along with a slice of crusty bread or a salad, this turmeric + apple + carrot soup is the perfect one pot go-to dinner that also fuels your body with all the delightful perks of eating well.
