for the love of chocolate

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and though it may be cliche, it truly is the perfect time for chocolate. This holiday is all about love: for celebrating the ones you love and taking time to reflect in gratitude for the ways that you are loved. A decadent chocolate treat is the perfect way to indulge and to linger over the romance, platonic love, or any kind of love in your life. I’ve rounded up three of my favorite and very simple chocolate go-tos that you can feast on during the holiday. Make one for your lover or even with your friend, and count all the ways that you’ve been loved so far this year.

First up to steal your heart:

The Adult Frozen Hot Chocolate:

This delicious treat is like a milkshake for adults… With all the necessary chocolate fixes you could imagine. Plus, it takes about 5 minutes to make so not only is it super dreamy, it’s also quick.

Makes 2
1 1/2 cups vanilla bean ice cream
2 tbsp hot fudge or chocolate sauce
1/2 pack of hot chocolate mix
1/4 cup Kahlúa™ or Baileys™ Irish Cream
1/2 cup Cool Whip plus more for garnish
3 tbsp dark chocolate

Place all of your ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and mixed through.

Pour into serving glasses and garnish with more whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and maybe even a mini cookie.

Next we’ve got…

Banana Sushi:

This is one of my favorite {and cutest} desserts, and on the scale of sweet treats, it’s actually quite healthy! We are taking a banana, some quality dark chocolate, and any other toppings to create a delectable little bite for your holiday.

1 banana (not over-ripe)
4 oz dark chocolate
Coconut shavings
Hemp seeds

Lay a piece of parchment paper or tinfoil down on your counter.
In a saucepan on low heat, melt your chocolate.
When melted, completely coat your banana in the chocolate, making sure to cover it completely. Then transfer the banana to the parchment paper, using a spoon to make sure the chocolate is distributed evenly.
Top with coconut shavings and hemp seeds. You could also use pistachios {other nuts of your choice}, chocolate chips, or anything else you may have on hand to add a little texture.
Place the banana in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes.
Remove and cut into slices!

ps. You can pop this into your freezer overnight, but will need to let it sit out for about 10 minutes before cutting!

And lastly…

Simple Chocolate Mousse:

This recipe is so silky and indulgent! Who doesn’t love a good mousse?

2 eggs
¼ cup granulated sugar
2½ cups cold heavy whipping cream, divided
6 oz dark chocolate
1 tsp vanilla

Beat your eggs, granulated sugar, and vanilla with a mixer for about 3 minutes.
Heat 1 cup heavy whipping cream in a small saucepan until just hot, but not boiling.
Turn on your mixer and slowly pour in the hot cream to the egg + sugar + vanilla.
Pour the entire mixture back into the hot pan and stir for 5 minutes or until thickened. Don’t boil though!
Refrigerate for 2 hours.
When the mixture is chilled and firm, use your mixer to whisk the rest of your heavy cream, until stiff peaks form. Remove the chocolate from the fridge and fold into the whipped cream.
Serve in little bowls with a garnish of chocolate or chopped nuts!
